Investigations Services
Family
Are you confident that the individual hired to take care of your loved one is telling you the truth about their background?
Are you willing to take a chance?
CORIE offers a place to turn to check the background of any individual who might be caring for your parents or children. We are also an additional source in the event that something does happen.
If you or your loved ones are victimized, the first step is to contact your local law enforcement. However, there might come a time when you want more done. This is not to suggest that local law enforcement is not doing their jobs. It might be a matter of staff shortages, large number of cases, or you just might want additional options.
For this reason, CORIE offers a place to turn for additional help where each case is top priority.
F
raud Schemes and Theft
Everyone is vulnerable to being a victim of fraud schemes. It might be the offer of a vacation package, home improvement deals, or an investment offer that seem too good to pass up.
However, senior citizens are more likely to be victims of a fraud scheme due to the fact that they tend to be more trusting and/or might be suffering from an illness that may affect short term memory. They also are less likely to report being a victim of a scheme due to many reasons: not knowing where to file a report; fear children might see them as being unable to tend to their own affairs; and embarrassment – all of which make them targets of con artist.
M
issing Persons
A loved one is missing – you notify the police – now what?
There is no question that law enforcement view missing persons very seriously and will do everything they can. But this does not mean that more cannot be done. In fact, additional help from private investigators are often welcomed as long as it does not impede the police investigation.
CORIE's teams of investigators are there for you whether one day has passed or years.
E
lder Abuse
Senior Citizen and Vulnerable Adults
The National Center of Elder Abuse documented that the major problem facing adult protective service programs and resources needed to resolve them is lack of funds and inadequate staffing, yet elder abuse is a growing problem.
The perpetrators of the abuse can be family members, caregivers, nursing home staff, home health care staff, neighbors, or any number of individuals who might come into contact with senior citizens or vulnerable adults.
Abuse is not only physical--it's also emotional or psychological abuse, neglect, abandonment, financial or material exploitation, sexual abuse and self-abuse.
C
hild Abuse and Neglect
Children, similar to seniors, do not always report abuse. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the signs. Physical signs are easier to detect, but behavior changes or withdrawal are also signs that abuse may be taking place.
C
hild Pornography and Sexual Assault
With the rise of the internet, so is the rise in child pornography. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children report that there are 100,000 websites that provide illegal child pornography, an estimated $20 billion industry. Additional findings reported that the age of the child appeared to be getting younger.
Sexual assault targets everyone. There is no one age that is more at risk. However, situational incidences might increase the risk such as college and military environments. According to the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault, 1 in 4 college women will be the victim of a sexual assault during her academic career, and the Department of Defense released an annual report in 2010 finding an 11 percent increase in reports of sexual assault in the military over the past year, including a 16 percent increase in reported assaults occurring in combat areas. CORIE wants to be here as an added resource where you can turn to for help.
C
ommunity
Environmental Health and Safety
The health and safety of your community is for all to protect.
You witness illegal dumping or toxins being filtered into local waters. You report this to the designated government agency but no action is taken. Where to turn next?
Give CORIE a call to discuss what additional steps can be done. CORIE investigators are passionate about the environment and will take whatever action necessary to make sure reports of environmental hazards are investigated and brought to the attention of the appropriate agency.
Receiving services? Do not be afraid to ask what steps are taken to check the background of staff members, staff training and types of oversight. If you are not confident with the answers, contact CORIE to discuss what additional steps can be done.
